The Cuckoo’s Calling

When troubled model Lula Landry falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case.

Strike is a war veteran – wounded both physically and psychologically – and his life is in disarray. Together with new assistant Robin Ellacott who has joined Strike only as a ‘temporary secretary’; the pair begin to investigate the mysterious death.

The case gives Strike a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model’s complex world, the darker things get – and the closer Robin and Strike get to terrible danger . . .

Starring Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger alongside an all star cast. Written by Ben Richards and directed by Michael Keillor, the three episodes of ‘The Cuckoo’s Calling’ aired on BBC1 in Autumn 2017.

Reviews

  • "Just once in a while a private detective emerges who captures the public imagination in a flash. And here is one who might well do that… There is no sign that this is Galbraith’s first novel, only that he has a delightful touch for evoking London and capturing a new hero. An auspicious debut."

    Daily Mail

  • "Cormoran Strike is a very modern detective and this adaptation maintains a balance between raw authenticity and the hokier demands of the genre."

    The Guardian

  • "There are plenty of twists and turns in the tale to keep viewers guessing as Strike and Robin make their enquiries, discovering more about each other in the process."

    Radio Times

  • "C.B. Strike is unmistakably British in execution, set along the narrow alleyways of Denmark Street and within the commotion of London marketplaces."
